The Minimally Invasive Orthopaedic Surgery Unit is focused on hip and knee pathologies and minimally invasive techniques and implants to perform joint replacement.

Adult hip disease

In the Hip field the Unit’s team are confident with minimally invasive hip replacement techniques as Direct Anterior Approach, Bikini line approach, Amis®approach, SuperPath®approach and Mini-Postero-Lateral approach in patients affected by primary osteoarthritis, post traumatic osteoarthritis, femoral Avascular Necrosis, Developmental Dysplasia Hip sequelae, Osteotomies sequelae and can properly treat complications like infections or peri-prosthetic fractures.

Adult knee disease

In the knee field the team is able to perform unicompartmental knee procedures (isolated medial, lateral, PFJ or combined by two of each), total knee procedures (CR, PS or Medial Pivot) in primary, post-traumatic and rheumatoid arthritis through a wide range of surgical approaches from standard medial parapatellar to subvastus or midvastus approach including Keblish lateral approach for valgus fixed deformity.

Research activity

A key point of the clinical activity of the Unit is the continuous research and improvement of minimally invasive and tissue sparing techniques, as well as the use of advanced anaesthetic and rehabilitative techniques aimed at minimizing the overall invasiveness of the surgery and maximizing the speed of recovery, including the use of new materials (biomechanical and tribological research)
