Biography
Dr. Giovanni Sorrenti is an otolaryngologist at Villa Erbosa.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna in 1985 and specialized in Otolaryngology at the same university in 1989. He has completed advanced training courses in the United States, Germany, Austria, Spain, Belgium, France, and Italy, focusing on:
- Surgical treatment of snoring and sleep apnea,
- Head and neck cancer surgery,
- Thyroid surgery,
- Endoscopic surgery of the nose and paranasal sinuses.
At Villa Erbosa, Dr. Sorrenti performs both outpatient and surgical procedures, specializing in diagnosing and surgically treating obstructive sleep-related breathing disorders, such as pathological snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). He is a certified SIO-AIMS expert in Sleep Respiratory Disorders Therapy.
Dr. Sorrenti has over 30 years of experience in head and neck oncology, thyroid, salivary gland, and nose-sinus surgery, as well as OSAS surgical treatment, developed in the ENT department of Policlinico S. Orsola in Bologna.
During his career, he has served as:
- Head of the OSAS Surgery Unit at Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi until July 2022,
- Adjunct Professor at the Otolaryngology Specialization School, University of Bologna, until July 2022,
- Lecturer in the Level II Master’s Program in Sleep Medicine at the Universities of Bologna, Foggia, and Catanzaro,
- Lecturer in the Level II Master’s Program in Dental Sleep Medicine at the University of Bologna,
- Director of the National SIO-AIMS Training Course for Otolaryngologists.
Dr. Sorrenti has taught or spoken at over 155 courses and conferences in Italy and abroad. He organized and led 12 theoretical-practical courses with live OSAS surgery at Policlinico S. Orsola and organized the ISSS (International Sleep Surgery Society) World Congress in 2012.
He authored the 2008 Italian Guidelines for Snoring Surgery and the 2017 European Guidelines for Sleep Endoscopy and has over 200 scientific publications on head and neck cancer treatment and surgical sleep apnea therapy. He also conducts research on Sleep Endoscopy techniques and surgical treatments for obstructive sleep apnea.
