Giulia Martina Cavestro
Biography
Professor Giulia Martina Cavestro is a gastroenterologist, Associate Professor of the Department of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Pier Alberto Testoni, where she is also responsible for the Functional Department of GASTRO PER ME (gastroenterological personalized medicine).
She is also the Director of the School of Specialization in Diseases of the Digestive System of the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan and an Associate Professor in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the same university.
After graduating from the University of Padua in Medicine and Surgery in 1996, she specialized in diseases of the digestive system at the University of Parma in 2000. Finally, in 2005, she received a doctorate in Hepato-Digestive Pathophysiology from the University of Parma.
Prof. Cavestro's clinical work focuses in particular on hereditary gastroenterological tumor syndromes within the GASTRO PER ME program dedicated to the care of families with genetic mutations caused by hereditary diseases such as: Lynch syndrome, classic and attenuated familial polyposis, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and juvenile polyposis, Gardner's syndrome, familial and hereditary pancreatic cancer, and familial and hereditary gastric cancer.
In addition, the professor treats juvenile tumors (<50 years) of the stomach, intestines, and pancreas. Performs daily diagnostic and operative endoscopy of the upper digestive tract (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) and lower (colonoscopy). Finally, the professor carries out outpatient activities in the field of diseases of the digestive system.
In terms of research, Prof. Cavestro is responsible for research activities in the field of hereditary gastroenterological tumor syndromes. In particular, she is the leader of research projects related to: oral and fecal microbiota in Lynch syndrome, exogenous (diet and lifestyle) and endogenous (genetic) risk factors for juvenile colorectal cancer, evaluation of the RABL3 gene in familial pancreatic cancer, and the role endoscopic video capsule for Lynch syndrome. Professor also participates in the European Prospective Registry for Lynch Syndrome (PLSD) and in the Italian Registry of Familial Pancreatic Cancer.
She is the author of more than 80 original scientific articles published in international journals. Her Hirsch Index is 27. She constantly participates as a speaker and moderator at national and international industry conferences.
