Alessandra Tavola (Алессандра Тавола)

Dr. Alessandra Tavola is an Ophthalmologist at the Ophthalmology Unit of IRCCS San Raffaele, led by Professor Francesco Bandello.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1986 with top honors (110/110 cum laude). She then specialized in Ophthalmology at the same university in 1990, again with highest honors (70/70 cum laude).

Since 2002, Dr. Tavola has been Head of the Ophthalmology Clinic at the Cardinal Shuster Polyclinic. Her main areas of interest include:

• General ophthalmology, with a focus on ocular surface studies
• Cataract
• Glaucoma
• Medical retina (maculopathy, retinal vascular diseases)

She has also focused on:

• Photocoagulative laser treatments in retinal conditions, particularly for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions;
• Studying the applications and effects of excimer laser therapy in the early experiences of keratorefractive surgery in Italy.

Dr. Tavola regularly participates in national and international conferences in her field.
