Francesco Vito Mandarino (Франческо Вито Мандарино)

Биография

Dr. Francesco Vito Mandarino is a gastroenterologist at the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna in 2016 and specialized in Digestive Diseases in 2022 at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.

Since 2022, he has been a PhD student with a project focused on the molecular and clinical characterization of gastroparesis. Between April 2023 and July 2024, he completed a prestigious Clinical and Research Fellowship in Advanced Digestive Endoscopy at Westmead Hospital in Sydney (Australia), one of the world’s leading centers for advanced endoscopy, under the guidance of Prof. Michael Bourke, considered one of the top global experts in advanced endoscopic treatment of colorectal polyps.

Dr. Mandarino performs diagnostic and interventional endoscopic procedures throughout the digestive tract, including the pancreas and bile ducts, both electively and in emergencies. The conditions treated include:

  • Colorectal polyps: advanced management of difficult and complex lesions using techniques such as Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD).
  • Duodenal polyps: endoscopic removal of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions with approaches that minimize the risk of complications while maintaining high success rates.
  • Zenker’s diverticulum: endoscopic myotomy.
  • Gastroparesis: use of advanced techniques such as Gastric Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (G-POEM) to significantly improve symptoms and the quality of life of patients with refractory gastroparesis.
  • Esophageal achalasia: endoscopic treatment via Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM).
  • Barrett’s esophagus: advanced management, including pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions, through resective treatments (EMR, ESD) and ablative techniques such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA).

Scientifically, he focuses on advanced endoscopic techniques for the removal of complex polyps, third-space techniques for the treatment of motility disorders, "pain-free" sedation during digestive endoscopy, and the treatment of gastroparesis.

He is the author and co-author of about 70 scientific articles published in international journals (H Index 12). He regularly participates in national and international congresses and conferences. He is a member of the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED) and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE). Additionally, he is involved in more than 30 working groups for clinical and translational research projects, both nationally and internationally.
