Luisa Pierro (Луиза Пьеро)

Dr. Luisa Pierro is an ophthalmologist in the Ophthalmology Unit directed by Professor Francesco Bandello.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1979 from the University of Pavia and specialized in Ophthalmology in 1983 at the University of Milan. She has completed advanced training courses in:

• Standardized A-scan ultrasound at the University of Vienna
• Diagnostic ultrasound at Cornell University in New York

Dr. Pierro currently serves as Head of the Imaging Diagnostic Service at the Ophthalmology Clinic of Vita-Salute University at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan and as Head of the OCT Diagnostic Service at the San Raffaele Raf Point. She is also a contract professor at the School of Specialization in Ophthalmology at the same university.

Her areas of expertise include imaging diagnostics of retinal and choroidal pathologies, optic nerve diseases, macular degeneration, and choroidal and orbital tumors. In her daily practice, she performs specialized eye exams, including B-scan and standardized A-scan ultrasounds, Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM) for the anterior segment, OCT, and OCTA. Over the years, she has continuously updated her skills in ultrasound diagnostics through frequent international courses. She was the first in Europe to use the tomographic technique (OCT) in 1995 and among the first in Italy to use OCTA in 2014.

Dr. Pierro serves as a reviewer for several international journals and is a member of the editorial board of *ISRN Ophthalmology* and *Journal Ophthalmic Research* (Columbia International Publishing). She has authored 160 publications in international scientific journals, three atlases on OCT diagnostics, and one atlas on ultrasound diagnostics. She has won the best poster award at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and secured first place for two research projects for the Italian Society of Ophthalmology (SOI). She regularly participates in national and international conferences in her field.
