Dr. Mauro Carlino is an Interventional Cardiologist and Head of the Functional Unit at the Interventional Cardiology and Hemodynamics Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, under the direction of Dr. Matteo Montorfano.
He earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1983 from the University of Milan, where he also specialized in Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases in 1986 and in Cardiology in 1990.
Dr. Carlino is a renowned interventional cardiologist specializing in complex percutaneous coronary procedures for cardiovascular diseases.
He has authored and co-authored numerous publications. Notable contributions include:
- 1999: Developed the first experience with a new system for occlusion and temporary aspiration to prevent distal embolization during saphenous vein graft angioplasty.
- 2000: Published two personal experiences: the “Microchannel Technique” and the “Subintimal Tracking and Re-entry Technique With Contrast Guidance.”
- 2016: Described the “Modified Contrast Microinjection Technique” (also known as "Carlino Technique") for facilitating the recanalization of chronic coronary occlusions.
- 2017: Published a study on a technique facilitating the guidewire externalization phase during retrograde treatment of chronic coronary occlusions.
- 2018: Introduced the “Antegrade Fenestration and Re-entry” technique for chronic coronary occlusion recanalization and the “Microcatheter Knuckle Technique” for treating complex chronic coronary occlusions.
Dr. Carlino’s techniques are cited in three international scientific publications. He has been a member of the EUROCTO CLUB since 2009 and has been invited to speak at numerous national and international conferences.
