Dr. Tommaso Lorenzo Parigi is a Gastroenterologist at the Unit of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, led by Professor Silvio Danese.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2017 from the University of Florence. In 2018, he spent a period as a Research Fellow at the Royal Free Hospital in London (UK) and completed his specialization in Gastroenterology in 2022 at Humanitas University in Milan.
From 2021 to 2022, Dr. Parigi worked as a Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham (UK), while simultaneously practicing in the Gastroenterology Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. There, he focused on inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), with particular interest in mucosal inflammation characterization using advanced endoscopic techniques and their integration into artificial intelligence models.
Dr. Parigi's clinical work primarily focuses on intestinal diseases, including IBD (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), diverticular disease, irritable bowel syndrome, dysbiosis, and celiac disease. He also performs endoscopic procedures such as diagnostic and operative outpatient gastroscopies and colonoscopies, and surveillance chromoendoscopies.
His research centers on studying colonic mucosal inflammation, evaluating it through endoscopy and microscopy, and optimizing medical therapies. In parallel, he collaborates with the Experimental Gastroenterology laboratory team at the hospital, coordinated by Dr. Ungaro, to investigate alterations in intestinal cells and the microbiota underlying inflammatory bowel diseases.
Dr. Parigi is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the Italian Group for the Study of IBD (IG-IBD), and the European Crohn & Colitis Organisation (ECCO). For ECCO, he contributed to the development of an online course on endoscopic diagnosis of IBD-related lesions.
