Биография
Professor Alaide Chieffo is an interventional cardiologist and the Coordinator of Research Activities at the Unit of Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology, directed by Prof. Matteo Montorfano, at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. She is also an Associate Professor of Cardiology at the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele.
She graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Federico II in Naples in 1997 and specialized in Cardiology at the same university in 2001. In 2005, she completed a second-level Master’s in Interventional Cardiology at the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan.
Her professional experience includes:
- From 2001 to 2004, serving as a Clinical and Research Fellow in Interventional Cardiology at the Unit of Interventional Cardiology and Hemodynamics at Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan.
- In 2006, receiving the T.J. Linnemeier Spirit of Interventional Cardiology Young Investigator Award.
Being a member of the Doctoral Program Committee for the International PhD in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Therapeutics (CardioPatTh) at the University of Federico II in Naples.
Professor Chieffo's clinical interests include the management and percutaneous treatment of acute and chronic coronary syndromes, as well as structural heart diseases. Her areas of major clinical and research interest include the management of cardiogenic shock and the implementation of mechanical circulatory support, coronary physiology and invasive study of the microcirculation for the diagnosis of INOCA (ischemia without obstructive coronary artery disease) and MINOCA (myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary artery disease), and functional studies with the implementation of intravascular imaging for complex coronary angioplasty procedures (common trunk stenosis, bifurcations, multivessel disease).
Professor Chieffo is a member of several important scientific societies, including the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), and serves on the executive committee of the European Bifurcation Club (EBC). She is also a member of The Lancet Women and Cardiovascular Disease Commission. As of May 2024, she is the President of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI - ESC), having previously served as Treasurer and then President Elect.
She is on the editorial board of numerous international scientific journals and is a speaker at national and international congresses. She has been an investigator and co-principal investigator in numerous national and international clinical studies, both sponsored and investigator-driven, as well as a recipient of targeted research grants and PNRR Next Generation EU funding focused on gender cardiology, funded by the Ministry of Health. She has authored over 560 articles (32,700 citations) in peer-reviewed journals, with a total H-index of 80 (Scopus).
