Oreste Davide Gentilini

Biography

Prof. Oreste Gentilini has been the Head of the Breast Surgery Department since 2015 and the Coordinator of the Breast Diseases Department at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan.

He is a tenured professor in the degree courses of Medicine and Surgery, International MD Program, the School of Specialization in General Surgery, and the Degree Course in Midwifery at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. He is also a founding member and president of the international research organization EUBREAST.

In 1993, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and in 1999, he specialized in General Surgery, in both cases with honors. Since 2001, he has been engaged in the treatment and research of breast tumors, having completed an internship in the United States at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.

From 2000 to 2015, he worked at the European Institute of Oncology, where he was the first Deputy Head of the Senology Department. From 2014 to 2015, he was the member of the Academic Council at the same institute.

He is a Project Manager for breast and axillary lymph node preservation, including after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and an Expert in familial/hereditary tumors and preventive procedures for “risk reduction” in women with high genetic risk. He personally performed more than 5,000 breast surgeries. He is the Coordinator and Leader of the international multicenter SOUND study in the field of axillary staging in women with early breast carcinoma.

Since 2018, he is a founding member, the member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Chairman of the EU-BREAST (EUropean Breast cancer REsearch Association of Surgical Trialists). Since 2019, he has been the member of the Board of Directors of ANISC - Italian National Association of Senological Surgeons.

Since 2012, he has been the member of the European Expert Group on Breast Carcinoma in Young and Pregnant Women. Dr. Gentilini is also the member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Surgical Oncology, and since 2018, he has been the Profile Editor for The Brest journal (I.F. 3,4). He is the author of over 100 international publications and guest speaker at over 100 national and international congresses.
