Biografía

Dr. Daniela Mazzaccaro is a vascular surgeon in the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Unit at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.

She graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery in 2008 from the University of Milan, presenting an experimental thesis titled "Endovascular Treatment of Carotid Artery Stenosis: Virtual Reality and Carotid Stenting," under the supervision of Prof. Domenico G. Tealdi and Prof. Giovanni Nano. In 2014, she specialized with honors in Vascular Surgery at the same institution, with a thesis titled "Anatomical-Radiological Study Aimed at the Design of Endoprostheses for the Thoracoabdominal Aorta," supervised by Prof. Livio Gabrielli and Prof. Giovanni Nano.

During her medical studies, Dr. Mazzaccaro completed a clinical internship in the Vascular Surgery department at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato from October 2006 to October 2008. Between 2017 and 2021, she attended the Doctoral School in Molecular and Translational Medicine (33rd cycle) at the University of Milan, earning her Ph.D. on March 17, 2021.

As a vascular surgeon, Dr. Mazzaccaro specializes in the prevention, non-invasive diagnostic ecocolor-Doppler, and treatment of arterial diseases of the aorta and major vessels, carotid artery stenosis, supra-aortic trunk disease, aortoiliac obliterative disease, and lower limb disease. She is also skilled in creating arteriovenous access for hemodialysis and treating venous-phlebological conditions.

Dr. Mazzaccaro has been a speaker at numerous national and international vascular surgery congresses and has served as Principal Investigator and co-Investigator in several national and international prospective clinical studies. In 2015, she won the SICVE Scholarship with her project on atherosclerotic disease of the superficial femoral arteries, focusing on patient-specific prediction of the fatigue behavior of peripheral Nitinol stents using mathematical modeling.

She won the "CX Selected Poster Session" at the Charing Cross International Symposium in 2017 with a poster titled "Study and Patient-Specific Prediction of the Fatigue Behavior of Peripheral Nitinol Stents of the Superficial Femoral Arteries Through Mathematical Modeling." In 2018, she was awarded a grant from the Italian Ministry of Health for her research project on "Preoperative Identification of the Histologically 'Vulnerable' Plaque Using Non-Invasive Imaging, Biomechanical Assessment, and Baroreflex Evaluation in Patients with Severe Carotid Stenosis" (GR-2018-12366862).

Dr. Mazzaccaro is a tutor for 4th to 6th-year students in the Master's Degree Program in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan and for residents in Vascular Surgery. She is also a contract lecturer for the School of Vascular Surgery at the University of Milan.
