Biografie

Dr. Raffaella Chieffo is a neurologist at the Stroke Unit of the Department of Neurology at San Raffaele Hospital, directed by Prof. Massimo Filippi.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan in 2005 and specialized in Neurology at the same institution in 2010. She obtained her PhD in Molecular Medicine - Experimental Neurology in 2014, during which she conducted research at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London.

Dr. Chieffo primarily focuses on cerebrovascular diseases, particularly acute phase management, diagnostic-therapeutic procedures, post-stroke management (functional deficits, epilepsy, dementia, vertigo), and primary and secondary prevention of recurrences. In her outpatient activities, she handles both cerebrovascular specialty and general neurology for diagnosing various neurological disorders. She also performs ecodoppler of the supra-aortic trunks, transcranial Doppler, and transcranial Doppler with microbubble tests at the Clinical Neurophysiology Department.

Her research has concentrated on using neurophysiological techniques to study the mechanisms of brain damage and plasticity aimed at functional recovery in various neurological diseases, particularly cerebrovascular diseases, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Chieffo has been a speaker at numerous national and international conferences and has served as a co-advisor for medical theses. With an H-index of 16 and more than 20 publications in international journals (10 as first author), she has also been a co-investigator in multicentric pharmacological clinical trials.
