Professor Domenico Baccellieri is an Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and serves as the Director of the Diagnosis, Therapy, and Research Program for Venous Diseases (Vein Center) at the Vascular Surgery Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, directed by Professor Roberto Chiesa.
He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Messina in 2002 and specialized in Vascular Surgery in 2007 at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, where he also obtained a second-level Master’s degree in Aortic Surgery the following year. During his training, he attended the University of Leicester (UK), where he completed advanced training in carotid vascular surgery and peripheral endovascular techniques.
Professor Domenico Baccellieri's clinical and research activities focus on all venous diseases, particularly superficial venous pathology using minimally invasive endovenous ablative techniques (radiofrequency ablation, mechanochemical ablation, cyanoacrylate glue ablation) and the treatment of deep venous system pathology: treatment of acute venous thrombosis with thrombectomy, thromboaspiration, and complex reconstructions, treatment of chronic thrombosis through endovenous recanalization and stenting, and compressive syndromes (May-Thurner syndrome, Nutcracker syndrome). He is actively involved in the Pelvic Unit at Ospedale San Raffaele as an expert in pelvic congestion syndrome.
He is also dedicated to abdominal aortic surgery, the treatment of extracranial carotid lesions using surgical or endovascular techniques with stenting, and the revascularization of lower limbs for critical ischemia. He has performed more than 3,500 surgical procedures as the primary operator.
Professor Baccellieri is the author of over 60 scientific publications in international journals and one monograph on "Visceral Vessels and Aortic Surgery." In 2013, he received the Ippocrate Award with a silver medal from the President of the Republic. He is a Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in scientific studies on venous diseases and peripheral vascular pathology.
Recognized as a reference and opinion leader in venous pathology and the treatment of venous thrombosis and pelvic congestion at both the national and international levels, he is a member of the most prestigious scientific societies in Vascular Surgery and Phlebology and is invited to the most prestigious international congresses.
