Dr. Federica Cipriani is a hepatobiliary surgeon of the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by Professor Luca Aldrighetti.
After graduating with honors from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Vita Salute San Raffaele University of Milan in 2009, she specialized in digestive system surgery at the same university in 2016. She was also a researcher at the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Del University Hospital of Southampton (UK), where she completed a 15-month postgraduate course in surgery (2014-2015).
From a clinical point of view, Dr. Cipriani's activities are mainly focused on the diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary neoplastic pathology, minimally invasive liver surgery, preoperative optimization process, two-stage hepatectomy programs, treatment of portal hypertension and end-stage liver failure, as well as monitoring and treatment of surgical patients in critical condition.
As a scientist, the doctor is mainly engaged in liver resection surgery and minimally invasive surgical methods for the treatment of liver cancer, especially laparoscopy. In addition to this, she is engaged in: additional/adjuvant treatment of primary and metastatic liver neoplasms, technical and biological aspects of liver resection surgery.
She participated in the development and drafting of national and international recommendations and guidelines in the field of hepatobiliopancreatic and oncological surgery, including the first European Guidelines for Laparoscopic Liver Surgery in 2017
- Recommendations of SICO (Italian Society of Oncological Surgery) for the management of cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020,
- and the Italian consensus of several companies on simultaneous laparoscopic surgery of colon tumors with synchronous liver metastases in 2021.
Dr. Cipriani holds institutional positions in national and international scientific societies; is a member of the Extended Council of the Italian Society of Oncological Surgery and the Communication Committee of the European-African Association of Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery. She is also a professor at the Italian School of Minimally Invasive Liver Surgery (Ospedale San Raffaele - Coordination Center), training courses in open and laparoscopic surgery held at Ospedale San Raffaele, and practical courses of the International Surgical Society (SICO) on Oncological Hepatobiliary Surgery (where she is also the coordinator of the scientific secretariat). Received recognition for the best oral presentation in the context of various corporate sector conferences (Italian Society of Oncological Surgery SICO in 2017, International Association of Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery IHPBA in 2018, International Society of Laparoscopic Liver Surgery ILLS and Italian Society of Endoscopic Surgery (SICE) in 2019).
She is the author and co-author of more than 250 scientific articles published in international journals and book chapters. Her Hirsch index is 24. Constantly participates in international industry congresses and conferences.
