Leonidas Kontochristos

Dr. Leonidas Kontochristos is an orthopedic surgeon and consultant in the Operating Department of Joint Replacement and Orthopedic Surgery (C.A.S.C.O.) of the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi – Sant’Ambrogio.
In 2007, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Gabriele D'Annunzio University, and in 2013 he received a specialization in orthopedics and traumatology at the University of L'Aquila.
After completing his studies and specialization, he moved to England, where he worked as a researcher at the Botnar Research Centre at Oxford University, dealing with the biomechanics of partial knee prostheses.
Subsequently, he completed his first postgraduate course at the renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, where he is engaged in reconstructive surgery of hip and knee joints, sports traumatology, sports surgery and, in particular, arthroscopic hip surgery.
His second postgraduate course is at John Radcliffe Hospital Trauma Centre, which has significantly expanded his experience in treating patients with polytrauma in the field of orthopedic trauma and, in particular, pelvic trauma.
Over the past few years, he has been the author of studies in which he has been engaged in partial knee prostheses and reconstructive joint surgery.
Currently, at the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi – Sant’Ambrogio, he is mainly engaged in hip and knee joint surgery and sports traumatology. In particular, he is engaged in reconstructive joint surgery, personalized orthopedic surgery and ligament reconstruction. He also has a special interest in hip and knee arthroscopy and, in addition, advanced treatment methods using mesenchymal cells for biological joint reconstruction.
