Patrizia Rovere Querini

Professor Patrizia Rovere Querini is the director of the General Medicine Unit focusing on metabolic health and aging at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.

She is an associate professor of Internal Medicine and group leader of the Laboratory of Innate Immunity and Tissue Remodeling. Since November 2024, she has also been leading the School of Specialization in Internal Medicine.

Building on a strong immunological background, over the years she has broadened her focus to address more extensive issues concerning complex, frail, and comorbid patients.

Her interest in metabolic diseases and their progression during aging stems from studying the relationship between a patient’s metabolic state and their inflammatory immune functionality. She approaches this area both scientifically—particularly through research on sarcopenic obesity—and clinically, co-directing the metabolic medicine clinic, the dyslipidemia clinic, the hepatology clinic, and the geriatrics clinic.

The outcomes of her clinical and research activities contribute to the work of the Center of Excellence for Metabolic Health.

With the aim of basing internal medicine practice on real-world data and scientific evidence, Professor Rovere Querini is engaged in developing complex digital systems that aid in managing comorbid patients to define increasingly specific and personalized treatments (thanks also to the use of advanced analytical methods now made possible by artificial intelligence).

The professor has contributed, serving as a bridge with other professionals, to the creation of hospital responses to local needs through the integration of hospital services with community care, offering outpatient activities aimed at comorbid and frail patients recently discharged from medical wards or who have survived COVID-19.

Her immunological expertise continues to inform her work in immunology of conception and pregnancy. She directs the Pregnancy Immunology Clinic in collaboration with the Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Reproductive Medicine Unit and the Myositis Clinic with the Neurology Unit.

She also collaborates with the Center for Science of Natality on issues such as recurrent pregnancy loss and multiple implantation failures.

Her h-index is 84. She has authored and co-authored over 360 peer-reviewed publications in international scientific journals, cited more than 24,500 times (Scopus, 2024).

Professor Rovere Querini teaches at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in the faculties of the International Medical Doctor Program, Medicine and Surgery, Biotechnology and Medical Biology, and the first-level Master’s program in Research Nurse and Midwifery.
