Roberto D'Anchise

Professor Roberto D’Anchise is the Head of the Department of Knee Surgery and Traumatology at the Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi Clinical Research Institute in Milan, and also a visiting professor in the Operational Technique course at the University of Milan.

He educated in the seventies, graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Genoa and specializing in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Milan. Then he continued his studies abroad, participating in internship programs in knee replacement in London and New York and in knee ligament surgery in Lyon.

Professor Roberto D’Anchise focuses on orthopedic surgery and traumatology (in particular sports traumatology), degenerative joint diseases and arthroscopic surgery and knee replacement. In the latter field, he focuses on the placement and replacement of prostheses, single-sided prosthetics and the treatment of cartilage injuries and complex ligament injuries. As the first surgeon, he has performed over 16,000 arthroscopic procedures and over 2,100 knee replacement procedures. In 2002, at the Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi Clinical Research Institute, he became the first orthopedist in Italy to perform a meniscus transplant.

He has participated as a speaker or moderator in a large number of national and international symposia on topics such as sports rehabilitation, various prosthetic techniques, meniscus transplantation, degenerative knee joint disease, minimally invasive surgical methods. Due to his researches in the field of autologous membrane chondrocyte transplantation, he was a member of the Lombardy Region Advisory Board on the establishment of guidelines for autologous membrane cartilage transplantation from 2005 to 2006.

He cooperates with various departments of knee surgery in Europe and the USA, was the chairman of the Italian Society for Knee Surgery. Professor D’Anchise is the founder and editor-in-chief of the Artroscopia e Ginocchio journal, co-founder of the Italian Society of Knee Joint, Arthroscopy, Sports Injury, Cartilage Pathology and Orthopedic Technology (SIGASCOT) and member of prestigious expert groups such as the European Society for Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) and International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).
