Paolo Camici
Biography
Professor Paolo Camici is Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Strategic Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan and is Full Professor of Cardiology at the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan. Previously, he was Chief of the Intensive and Semi-Intensive Care Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, after having held the same position in prestigious London institutions such as Hammersmith Hospital and Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital Trust. He was Professor of Cardiology at Imperial College School of Medicine.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 1974 from the University of Pisa, he obtained his first specialization in Nuclear Medicine (1977), and then he also specialized in Cardiovascular Diseases in the same University (1981). Between 1975 and 1977, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical Physiology at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) in Pisa; later he held important research positions in the field of coronary artery disease treatment, first at the Institute of Medical Pathology of the University of Pisa (1977-1994), then at the Cyclotron Unit of Hammersmith Hospital in London (1983-1984).
Since 1985, he was Director of Research at the Institute of Clinical Physiology of the CNR in Pisa, followed by the position of Senior Lecturer and Chief Cardiologist at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (RPMS) and Medical Research Council Cyclotron Unit of Hammersmith Hospital in London (1994). Since 1994 he is Professor of Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Chief Cardiologist at the Imperial College School of Medicine (ICSM), University of London, and since 2010, Full Professor of Cardiology at the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele of Milan. Since the same year, he has been Director of the Heart Failure Strategic Unit at Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, carrying out clinical and research activities.
Author of a large number of scientific articles published in prestigious national and international journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, European Heart Journal and The Lancet,. He is a member of the Editorial Board of more than 10 scientific journals with high Impact Factor including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (IF:19) and the European Hearth Journal (IF:23). Since September 2016, he has been Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cardiology.
Paolo Camici is Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
