Franco Gaboardi
Biography
Dr. Franco Gaboardi is a urologist at the Department of Urology at the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute in Milan and cooperates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Clinic.
His educational path began at the University of Parma, where he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1978. Three years later he transferred to the University of Genoa to pursue a specialization in urology. In 1987, he completed his second specialization in andrology at the University of Pisa.
In his studies in the field of andrology and urology, he studied in depth such topics as microsurgery, treatment of bladder and prostate cancer, immunotherapy, the use of laser in urology, impotence, infertility, laparoscopy and robotic surgery. He is a pioneer in laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. In 2001, he became the first physician in Italy to perform a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, in 2004, he performed a robotic radical prostatectomy, and in 2009 and 2015 he performed a single-port laparoscopic and robotic radical prostatectomy.
In addition, in 2003, Dr. Franco Gaboardi received the first prize for the video “Laparoscopic neuphroureterectomy and cystectomy with ileal neobladder”, awarded by the Italian Society of Urology (SIU). He received a similar award in 2005 for the video “Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy robot assisted” and in 2014 for the video “Robot assisted cystectomy in female with intracorporeal ileal conduit”.
He has taken part in over 500 national and international congresses, often as a speaker. He is the author of 200 scientific articles in such journals as the European Urology, Journal of Urology, BJU International, Tumori, Archives of Italian Urology and Andrology, Journal of Endourology, Minerva Urologica, Chirurgia e Patologia Sperimentale and International Urology Nephrology.
In addition, he is the member of influential scientific societies and groups: the North Italian Urological Association, Italian Urological Association, Italian Andrological Association, Italian Association of Research in Surgery, Italian Laser Association, European Urological Association, American Urological Association and European Society Uro-Technology.
