Professor Ettore Taverna directs the Surgical Department of Shoulder Surgery at the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi – Sant’Ambrogio. In addition, he is an adjunct professor at the School of Specialization of Orthopedic Surgery and the School of Specialization of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation of the University of Milan. Professor Taverna is engaged in the private clinical activities of Casa di Cura La Madonnina. He also collaborates with Palazzo della Salute - Wellness Clinic.

In 1986, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan, and then received a specialization in orthopedic surgery (1992). Three years later, he won a scholarship in shoulder surgery and arthroscopy at Joe W. King Orthopedic Institute Center at Texas Orthopedic Hospital in Houston, Texas (USA).

During his career, Professor Ettore Taverna has been engaged in clinical and laboratory studies of bone defects in the instability of the shoulder joint, eventually patenting his original surgical method: The Arthroscopic Bone Block Technique.

Participates in conferences and meetings as a speaker both in Italy and abroad, his bibliography is numerous, consists of monographs, book chapters and scientific articles for indexed journals, numbering 312 citations and 11 points on the Hirsch index (Scopus Science Direct) over the past 10 years. He is the editor of the shoulder section of the Journal of Arthroscopy, a document of the Italian Arthroscopy Association.

He is a member of such professional associations as SIA (Italian Society of Arthroscopy), AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons), SEDEC (European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery), ISAKOS (The International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine) and ESSKA (where he was President of the Upper Extremities Committee).
