Greta Pellegrino

Dr. Greta Pellegrino is a rheumatologist at the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio. She also collaborates with Smart Clinic in Varedo.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2016 from the University of Pavia and then specialized in Rheumatology in 2021 at the University of Rome La Sapienza.

Dr. Pellegrino's educational journey began at the University of Pavia, where she graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2016. From her early years, she developed a passion for systemic autoimmune diseases through internships at the Rheumatology Unit of the IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo under the guidance of Professor Montecucco. During her final year, she became involved in clinical and translational research in Rheumatology through a training period at the University of Glasgow. She then specialized in Rheumatology at the School of Rheumatology of the University La Sapienza in Rome. During her specialization years, under the guidance of Professor Valeria Riccieri, she deepened her expertise in the management—from diagnosis to therapeutic management—of patients with connective tissue diseases, particularly systemic sclerosis.

In her clinical practice, she focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with immunoreumatological diseases, with a particular emphasis on the early diagnosis of autoimmune connective tissue diseases (Systemic Sclerosis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Sjögren’s syndrome, mixed and undifferentiated connective tissue disease), inflammatory myopathies, systemic vasculitis, autoinflammatory diseases, and rare diseases, paying particular attention to the multidisciplinary management of organ involvement and systemic consequences (e.g., pulmonary interstitial disease). She is also interested in diagnosing primary or secondary microcirculation alterations due to systemic autoimmune diseases through the execution of periungual capillaroscopy.

Her research activities initially focused on autoimmune connective tissue diseases and the use of capillaroscopy in Rheumatology, later shifting after her specialization to cardiac involvement in systemic sclerosis. In these fields, she is the author or co-author of numerous scientific works published in national and international journals, as well as posters and presentations at national and international congresses.
