Maria Paola Perini

Dr. Maria Paola Perini is a neurologist in the Department of Neurology and Stroke at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.
In 1995, she received a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Milan, where she received a degree in neurology in 2000. From 2000 to 2004, she received her doctorate in Neurology and Pain Therapy from the University of Milan.
From 2001 to 2005, she was the hypnotist at the European School of Hypnotic Psychotherapy A.M.I.S.I. (Italian Medical Association for the Study of Hypnosis). From 2011 to 2015, she attended a course of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine at So Wen in Milan, receiving a diploma of Doctor of Acupuncture.
In 2000, she founded the headache clinic Policlinico San Donato, and then continued her specialization, delving into research in the field of cerebrovascular and neuro-interventional therapy at Istituto Besta. From 2009 to 2019, she worked in the Department of neurorehabilitation ICS Maugeri in Milan, studying the complexity of managing the rehabilitation process of a patient suffering from severe neurological diseases (stroke, neuromuscular disease with respiratory failure, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and other forms of rare pathologies), the management of the rehabilitation process until discharge home with assistive devices.
At the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, Dr. Perini oversees the clinical activities of the Neurology Department, the Emergency Department and directs the Headache Center. She is an expert on:
- headache;
- pain therapy;
- cerebrovascular diseases;
- neuroinflammations;
- acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine;
- systemic medicine with an emphasis on intestinal and brain axis dysfunction;
- medical assessment and management of the care of weak patients with disabilities.
