Professor Pier Alberto Testoni, specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive System Surgery and Digestive Endoscopy, practices at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

He is a Full Professor of Gastroenterology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. From 1999 to 2021, he served as Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the Ospedale San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan. During this period, he also directed the School of Specialization in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, the Medical Education Center (International School of Diagnostic and Operative Digestive Endoscopy), and numerous international Advanced Master Courses in Operative Endoscopy.

He is currently a Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), a member of the Steering Committee on Research Priorities in Digestive Endoscopy of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), and of the Steering Committee on Research in Biliary and Pancreatic Endoscopy of the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO).

From 2016 to 2018, he was president of the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy. Within the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), he coordinated the drafting of the guidelines for Biliary and Pancreatic Endoscopy techniques (ERCP) from 2014 to 2016, and from 2016 to 2020, he coordinated research in biliary and pancreatic endoscopy.

Over the years, he has gained various international training experiences: Visiting Fellow at the University of Erlangen, Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Leuven and Hospital Val d'Hebron in Barcelona, and Visiting Professor at Duke University in Durham (USA).

At La Madonnina, Professor Testoni manages functional disorders and diseases of the digestive system (including acute conditions such as pancreatitis, biliary colic, digestive bleeding, and intestinal obstruction) in inpatient, day hospital, or outpatient settings. He performs advanced operative endoscopy or endoluminal surgery for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease and Barrett’s esophagus, moderate obesity, esophageal motility disorders, gastroparesis, and for the removal of polyps and early precancerous and cancerous lesions. Additionally, he performs endoscopic procedures on the bile ducts and pancreas, having performed over 10,000 ERCPs in his career, earning notable recognition on a European and global level.

He also performs small intestine endoscopy using the latest-generation video capsule.

Author of 26 books and book chapters and 267 publications in leading international journals, with over 9,200 citations (Scopus H-Index 43), in 2021, he served as editor-in-chief of the most significant work in the field of diagnostic and operative digestive endoscopy to date, involving 260 authors worldwide with 106 chapters (1905 pages in two volumes): P.A.
