Pietro Turco

Dr. Pietro Turco is a cardiologist in the Department of Clinical Arrhythmology and Electrophysiology of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.

In 1980 he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Naples, where in 1983 he also received a specialization in cardiology and internal medicine. 

Working in the field of clinical and interventional arrhythmology as a surgeon and researcher since 1983, he has contributed to the foundation and development of numerous electrophysiology and electrical stimulation laboratories throughout Italy. Since 1989, he has held the position of Consultant and Head of the Laboratory of Electrophysiology and Electrical Stimulation in various hospitals (Ospedale di Ariano Irpino, Clinica San Michele in Maddaloni, Caserta, Humanitas in Rozzano, Milan, Villa Maria Cecilia in Cotignola, Ravenna, Hesperia Hospital in Modena, Clinica Mediterranea in Naples, Multimedica Hospital in Sesto San Giovanni and Clinica San Carlo in Paderno-Duniano). 

In the field of electrophysiology, he deals with ablations of complex arrhythmias, such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atypical atrial flutter and ventricular extrasystole. He is also engaged in implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators with biventricular support and mechanical extraction of catheters for infections, pacemakers, and defibrillators. 

Through his publications in specialized international journals and his interventional activities, he contributed to the development and dissemination of technology used today for catheter ablation and implantable devices with biventricular support used in electrotherapy in the treatment of heart failure.

He conducts clinical research in the treatment of Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) and atrial fibrillation. He is the author of about 100 publications in national and international scientific journals.
