Professor Riccardo Bonfanti is the Head of the Functional Department of Pediatric Diabetes of the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Dr. Graziano Barera.
After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, he majored first in pediatrics and then in neonatology at the same university. Subsequently, he received a Second-Level Master's Degree in Pediatric Diabetology and Metabolic Disorders from the University of Parma and the University of Verona. He also qualified as a professor and is currently an Associate Professor at the Vita Salute San Raffaele University.
Prof. Bonfanti is an expert in pediatric diabetology and his clinical work includes the treatment of childhood diabetes in all its many manifestations from neonatal diabetes to type 1 and 2 diabetes up to childhood MODY diabetes. In particular, he is engaged in the use of technologies for the treatment of diabetes in children.
From the point of view of clinical research, Professor Bonfanti coordinated the work of the Department of Clinical Research in the field of Pediatric Diabetology at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
He has conducted numerous clinical studies in collaboration with the TRAILNET center of the same hospital, focusing on early diabetes and the use of insulin pumps, continuous blood glucose monitors and artificial pancreas.
He is the author and co-author of 145 publications in industry scientific journals and book chapters, and has collaborated on the development of numerous guidelines and recommendations for SIEDP. In this context, he was also the national coordinator (2017-19) of the Pediatric Diabetology Study Group.
His Hirsch Index is 28. Constantly takes part in national and international industry congresses.
