Francesco Langella

Dr. Francesco Langella is an orthopedic traumatologist in the GSpine4 Operating Department of the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi.

In 2007, he attended, as a laureate of the Erasmus Scholarship, the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Louis Pasteur University (Strasbourg, France). He entered the Department of Spine Surgery under the guidance of Prof. Steib.

He graduated in medicine and surgery in 2010 at the Second University of Naples, studying vertebral fractures due to osteoporosis. He finishes his studies with the highest grades, having received a diploma with honors and the approval of the commission.

In 2015, he deepened his research in the field of surgical treatment of spinal deformity in children as a researcher at the "San Diego Spine Fellowship" under the guidance of Prof. Akbarnia (San Diego, California - USA).

In 2016, he attended the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) Institute in New York (New York - USA) as a researcher in the Department of Spinal Surgery under the supervision of Dr. Lafage and Dr. Schwab.

In 2016, he received a specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Second University of Naples with the highest grade thanks to his dissertation: "Sagittal Vertebral-Pelvic Alignment: Xipho-Pubic Angle (XPA) Introduction of a new radiographic parameter". A new radiographic parameter has been introduced, developed in collaboration with New York HSS, for the study of severe spinal deformities.

In 2017, he won a scholarship from the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT) for the "Osteoporosis & Spinal Alignment Study" project, a program to study the relationship between spinal deformity and spinal alignment.

Currently, he is primarily engaged in the conservative and surgical treatment of spinal deformity in children and adolescents. He also carries out clinical activities and studies the treatment of fractures in the elderly.

Dr. Langella focuses his field of research on the study of spinal biomechanics and spinal deformity.

He has 22 scientific publications to his credit, most of which are presented in international journals.

He also holds dozens of conferences at national and international congresses.

For about a year, he was a member of the Prevent4Work project group, a European project (Erasmus +), within which the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi, together with other European partners, implements the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of work-related diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
