Germano Melissano
Biography
Professor Germano Melissano is Vascular Surgeon at the Vascular Surgery Unit of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, directed by Professor Roberto Chiesa, and Full Professor of Vascular Surgery and Director of the School of Specialization in Vascular Surgery and the Second-Level Master's in Aortic Surgery at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Florence in 1988, he specialized in general surgery in 1993 at the University of Milan, and in 1998 received a second specialization in vascular surgery at the same university. During his studies, he spent several periods abroad at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston (USA), Canton Hospital in Lucerne (Switzerland), Städtische Kliniken Frankfurt am Main (Germany) and the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland (USA). Since 2002 he has been the head of the functional unit, since 2005 – co-director, Master in Aortic surgery and since 2013 – associate professor.
He has more than 12,000 operations to his credit; his main activity is focused on complex aortic pathologies, in particular aneurysms and dissections, but he is also very active in relation to carotid, peripheral arterial and phlebological pathology.
He is the author or co-author of more than 400 publications in prestigious national and international scientific journals, 17 books and 114 book chapters. His Hirsch index is 46. He is a member of the scientific committees of the main international congresses on vascular surgery (Veith of New York, EVC Maastricht, IMAC Cairo, etc.), and he is regularly invited to present the results of his research at national congresses and international companies in this sector.
He is a co-author of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) guidelines on aortic aneurysm surgery.
Finally, he is a member of the main international scientific societies such as: Italian Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (SICVE); European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS); Francophone Society for Vascular Surgery (SCV); Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery (SCVS); Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS).
