Giuseppe Vezzoli
Biography
Professor Giuseppe Vezzoli is the Head of the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital and the Associate Professor of Nephrology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
He studied at the University of Milan, where he graduated in medicine and surgery and specialised in nephrology. In 1982 he was a researcher at the Biochemistry Department of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich.
Professor Vezzoli's clinical and diagnostic activities focus on the following areas: Pathogenesis and genetic and alimentary predisposing factors of renal stone disease, idiopathic hypercalciuria, hypercalcaemia and hypocalcaemia, primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, chronic renal failure, Obstructive nephropathy, retroperitoneal fibrosis, hypophosphatemia and hypophosphatemic rickets in adults, and proximal and distal tubulopathies (such as Dent's disease, tubular acidosis, Bartter syndrome and cystinuria).
His scientific articles on renal stone disease and calcium excretion regulation have been published in international journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Kidney Disease, Clinical Chemistry, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Kidney International, Journal of Urology, Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology Metabolism and Bone.
He is the member of the Italian Society of Nephrology (SIN), the European Renal Association and European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) and the Italian Society of Osteoporosis and Mineral Metabolism of Skeletal Diseases (SIOMMMS), within which he founded the Forum in Bone and Mineral Research.
