Paolo Giorgio Arcidiacono
Biography
Dr. Paolo Giorgio Arcidiacono is the Head of the Unit of BilioPancreatic Endoscopy and Ecoendoscopy at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan. He is a graduate in Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, where he obtains specialization in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy. He also collaborates with Nursing Home Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
In the Unit headed by him, approximately 3,000 biliopancreatic endoscopies are performed annually, including 2,000 Endoscopic UltraSonography examinations (EUS) ± Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and 700 Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatographies (ERCP).
Dr. Arcidiacono is Principal Investigator, international expert and Group Leader in various research projects, such as International Cancer of the Pancreas Screening (CAPS), Consortium (John Hopkins University Project Leader) and European Study Group on Cystic Tumors of the Pancreas (PACYFIC) (Erasm University Rotterdam Project Leader).
He collaborates as adjunct professor with the School of Specialization in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy of the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan; he is Director of the School of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), of the Advanced Endoscopy Training School of the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED) and EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasonography) School for the Training for Excellence Program (Pentax Europe).
His is an author of 112 scientific publications (H-index in Scopus is 29), 10 chapters in books, 20 reviews, and 2 monographs, including the treatise Acute and Chronic Pancreatitis. His contributions are published in numerous journals, such as American Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical and Experimental Gastroenterology, Digestive and Liver Disease, Endoscopic Ultrasound, Pancreatology, Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology, United European Gastroenterol Journal, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Arthritis Research and Therapy, European Journal of Cancer, Clinical Translational Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, British Journal of Surgery, Annals of Oncology, Pancreas, British Journal of Radiology, European Journal of Surgical Oncology and Cochrane Systematic Review.
He is Associate Editor in Endoscopic Ultrasound, and is or has been member of Editorial Boards of the following journals: Giornale Italiano Endoscopia Digestiva, Digestive and Liver Disease, World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is reviewer of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Endoscopy, Digestive and Liver Disease, Endoscopic Ultrasound, World Journal of Gastroenterology, World Journal of Endoscopy and World Journal of Oncology.
He is a member of American Society of Gastroinestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), where he is also a Fellow (FASGE), Italian Association for Neuroendocrine Tumors (ITANET), Educational Committee of European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), Executive Board of EURO-EUS, International Therapeutic of Endoscopic UltraSonography (EUS), and co-founder of EUS ITALY – Italian Master Class on Endosonography.
He is the world’s pioneer in cryothermal ablation therapy under ecoendoscopic guidance for the treatment of pancreatic tumors.
