Roberto Bassani
Biography
Dr. Roberto Bassani is the Head of the Department of Spine Surgery II at the Clinical Research Institute Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio in Milan and also cooperates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Clinic.
In 1992, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Pavia, where he specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology five years later.
He shows interest in the treatment of congenital (deformity) and degenerative pathology of the spine, spinal surgery, focusing on the study and application of the anterior approach to the spinal column, as well as the development of minimally invasive methods and technology “non fusion” (disc prostheses, anterior surgical access to the spine, endoscopic surgery of the thoracic spine).
Over the years of his career, Dr. Roberto Bassani has performed more than 3000 major surgical interventions, of which 900 using the anterior approach, on the cervical, dorsal and lumbar spine for the treatment of back injuries, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc diseases of the cervical and lumbar spine, metastatic tumors of the vertebrae, infections and segmental instability of the spine. He is a visiting surgeon in various Italian hospitals, where he performs operations on the lumbar and thoracic spine with anterior approach using minimally invasive and traditional methods.
He has extensive experience working abroad. He cooperated with the Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, Strasbourg University Hospital, Bada Berka in Weimar and Sutter Neuroscience Medical Group in Sacramento from 1998 to 2006. He received a Training License in Spinal Surgery from the European Association of Research Groups for Spinal Osteosinthesis (ARGOS) in Paris in 2000. In 2009, he won The First Prize Winner, awarded by the ARGOS Association.
He is a speaker at international congresses on minimally invasive spinal surgery and lectures at symposia of the Japan Society for the Study of Surgical Technique for Spine and Spinal Nerves (JPSSSTSS). His work has been published in indexed journals such as the European Spine Journal, International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biologye, International Journal of Clinical Medicine.
Since the 2018-19 academic year, he has been regularly and continuously teaching (surgical anatomy of anterior approaches to the spine) at the School of Specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Milan.
In 2020, he participated in and won the competition for the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) of the Ministry of University and Scientific Research (MIUR), obtaining the qualification as Associate Professor in the discipline of Orthopedics and Traumatology.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT), Italian Society for Spine Surgery (GIS), European Association of Research Groups of Spinal Osteosynthesis (ARGOS), Eurospine, Scoliosis Research Society and AOSpine International.
