Biography

Dr. Simone Gulletta heads the Functional Department of Arrhythmology in the Department of Arrhythmology of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Paolo della Bella.

After graduating with honors from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1991 at the University of Messina, he received his specialization in cardiology with honors in 1998 from the same university.

In the field of arrhythmology, Dr. Simone Gulletta is an expert in the following areas:

  • radiofrequency catheter ablation of an additional pathway (WPW),
  • paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia,
  • atrial fibrillation,
  • atrial tachycardia and ventricular ectopic contractions in both adults and children, as well as during implantation of a pacemaker,
  • intracavitary and subcutaneous defibrillators,
  • removal of broken or infected catheters.

Dr. Simone Gulletta also performed the first implantation at the San Raffaele Hospital of the Micra AV leadless pacemaker, a wireless device that is placed directly into the right ventricle through the femoral vein, improving the patient's atrioventricular synchronization and cardiac function.

The research activity of Dr. Gulletta is aimed at:

  • radiofrequency catheter ablation of additional pathways,
  • paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia,
  • atrial fibrillation,
  • atrial tachycardia,
  • ventricular extrasystole,
  • implantation of subcutaneous defibrillators,
  • non-water pacemakers,
  • arrhythmia in patients with an artificial heart (ventricular assist device),
  • fainting and arrhythmias in athletes.

He is the author of numerous articles published in national and international journals in this field, and his Hirsch Index is 20.

He constantly participates in congresses and conferences, is a member of numerous scientific societies, such as:

  • Italian Association of Arrhythmology and Cardiac Pacing (AIAC)
  • Italian Society of Pediatric Cardiology (SICP)
  • European Heart Rhythm Association.
