Dr. Enrico Ortolano is a general surgeon at the Unit of General and Emergency Surgery at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bari in 2001, he specialized in General Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan in 2007.
Among his work experiences:
- From 2008 to 2010, he served as a Consultant General Surgeon at the Emergency Department of IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
- From 2010 to 2014, he worked as a Medical Director at the Unit of General Surgery and Emergencies and Emergency Department of IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
- Since 2015, he has been the Head of Functional Unit at the Unit of General Surgery and Emergencies. He is also currently the coordinator of Trauma and Surgical Emergency activities at the Emergency Department of San Raffaele Hospital.
Dr. Ortolano has extensive experience in both elective and emergency general surgery, including minimally invasive treatment (video laparoscopic). He is involved in the clinical management of polytraumatized patients (coordinating the Trauma Team), Damage Control Surgery, and the definitive surgical treatment of post-traumatic injuries. He also has a keen interest in abdominal wall surgery in both elective and emergency settings.
In terms of research, he focuses on the treatment of surgical emergencies and post-traumatic injuries, particularly through minimally invasive techniques. He is the author of several scientific publications and is a member of various scientific societies, including the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), the Italian Society of Emergency Surgery and Trauma (SICUT), and the Italian Society of Hernia and Abdominal Wall Surgery (ISHAWS).
