Project Aim
Strengthen 6 peripheral health centres in Western Bahr el Ghazal and local communities, with particular attention to the most vulnerable groups, in the management of the COVID-19 emergency.
Background of the Project
The project has the aim to fortify the personnel of six health centers, the Community Health Workers (CHWs) and the Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) in order to spread among the population about the danger of COVID-19 infection and how to implement all the prevention procedures that can be adopted in the context of the villages. This project is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
Objectives achieved
AISPO Coordinator did six sessions of trainings to Paramedics, Community Health Workers (CHWs), Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and community leaders for a total of 42 people. The main themes of the training have been: COVID – 19 Background, Symptoms, Spreading, Prevention, South Sudan Situation. After the training, the beneficiaries of the training courses started awareness campaigns conducted on hygiene norms and health regulations to prevent COVID-19 infection to the local communities and delivered informative and didactic materials. 30.511 people have been informed through awareness campaigns done by CHWs and TBAs who went directly to the villages to sensitize the local communities. Personal protective equipment and sanitation materials (facemasks, examinations gloves, face shields, gown, disposable, pulse oximeter, gum boots, biohazard back bags, thermometer, surgical caps, wash stand with bucket, liquid soap and hand sanitizer) were delivered to the 6 beneficiary centers, project staff and local communities.
