Prof. Giulio Ferrari is an ophthalmologist at the U.O. of Corneal and Ocular Surface Diseases led by Prof. Francesco Bandello. He is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and the director of the Eye Repair Lab, where he serves as Group Leader.

He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery in 2004 from the University of Parma and later earned his Specialization in Ophthalmology, also with honors, from the same university in 2008.

In 2009, he completed a Research Fellowship (Hon) at the University College of London, Institute of Ophthalmology, London, UK, and in 2010, he undertook a Research and Clinical Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Schepens Eye Research Institute, and Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, USA.

In 2015, he received his PhD in Molecular Biology and Pathology from the University of Parma.

Prof. Ferrari specializes in ophthalmology, with a focus on corneal and ocular surface diseases, including corneal dystrophies and degenerations, keratoconus, and autoimmune and infectious keratitis and conjunctivitis. He particularly manages severe inflammatory conditions such as burns, Lyell's syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, and severe graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).

As the director of the Eye Repair Lab, Prof. Ferrari leads research aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of currently incurable ocular diseases. The lab’s research has been consistently funded by national and international grants, including European Horizon funds, and has produced a steady stream of publications in high-impact journals (h-index 28). The lab’s discoveries have also resulted in the filing of several patents.
