Dr. Veronica Zuber is a breast surgeon at the Breast Surgery Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele and serves as the breast surgery coordinator within the Breast Unit led by Dr. Oreste Davide Gentilini. She also acts as the Organizational Coordinator for the Breast Unit in the Comprehensive Cancer Center project.
After earning her degree in Medicine and Surgery with honors in 2002 from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Dr. Zuber specialized in General Surgery in 2008, also with honors. Since 2005, following clinical and research experiences in general surgery and transplants at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Illinois at Chicago, she has focused entirely on breast cancer care, from early diagnosis to surgical therapy, with a special interest in conservative and oncoplastic surgery.
Her clinical and surgical work covers both benign and malignant breast diseases in women and men, as well as prevention and risk-reduction surgery for hereditary conditions. She has performed over 2,500 surgeries as the lead surgeon and participated in approximately 7,000 procedures related to oncologic and reconstructive breast surgery.
Dr. Zuber is a member of the European Hereditary Tumour Group (EHTG) and contributed to the development of European guidelines for managing Peutz–Jeghers syndrome. She also collaborates with Vita-Salute University as a contract professor and tutor in General Surgery and Surgical Propaedeutics for Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, and Dental Hygiene programs.
Since 2010, she has worked with the National Observatory on Women’s Health (ONDa), actively educating women on cancer prevention through public meetings, free consultations, media appearances, and online courses on prevention and self-examination.
Since 2017, Dr. Zuber has been the breast surgery lead for the “Breastfeeding Mothers” project within the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, focusing on the prevention and treatment of breast conditions during pregnancy and lactation.
She has been a co-investigator and researcher in numerous national and international multicenter studies on breast cancer, including trials conducted at Ospedale San Raffaele. She is the author and co-author of several internationally recognized scientific publications and regularly participates in national and international conferences dedicated to breast cancer care.
