Alessandro Bandiera
Biography
Dr. Alessandro Bandiera, thoracic surgeon, is the Head of the Hospital Planning Function and Head of the Surgical Unit in the Thoracic Surgery Department of the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute, headed by Professor Giampiero Negri.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele in 2004 and specialized in thoracic surgery at the same university in 2009. During his education, he studied abroad in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital - Harvard School of Medicine in Boston, USA.
His clinical focus is on lung, pleural and mediastinal oncology, with particular emphasis on the use of minimally invasive methods of diagnosis, staging and treatment of intrathoracic tumors. He is also interested in surgical problems of the respiratory tract, especially tracheal and bronchial stenosis in connection with neoplasms or benign tumors.
Dr. Bandiera’s research activities reflect his clinical activities and relate primarily to the field of oncology, with a particular emphasis on minimally invasive methods of diagnosis, staging and treatment of intrathoracic tumors and on the relationship between biomolecular factors and prognosis in operated patients. Surgical respiratory diseases are another area of research.
He is the author and co-author of 40 publications in industry scientific journals and chapters in books. His Hirsch index is 12. He regularly participates in national and international industry congresses.
