Domenico Cianflone
Biography
Professor Domenico Cianflone is the Head of the Department of Specialized Cardiac Rehabilitation at the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute in Milan and Associate Professor in Cardiovascular Diseases at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
He studied at the University of Milan, from which he graduated in 1980, and two years later he specialized there in cardiology. Between 1983 and 1986, he studied abroad, first at the Department of Cardiology at Hammersmith Hospital in London as a Research Fellow & Honorary Clinical Assistant, and then at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, USA, under the Honorary Fellowship program.
Professor Cianflone has acquired specific skills in diagnostic, clinical cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation. He is a teacher of cardiology in the Master’s degree program in Medicine and Surgery, in the training course in English in Medicine and Surgery (International MD Program), in a three-year course of study and master’s degree program for physiotherapists, as well as in the School of Specialization in Cardiology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. He has coordinated numerous medical telematics and telemedicine research projects funded by the European Commission, European Space Agency (ESA) and G7/G8. He was the coordinator of numerous studies on the mechanisms of angina pectoris and heart attack, which were funded by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Higher Education and socially oriented non-profit organizations: among them the FAMI (First Acute Miocardial Infarction) studies carried out in Italy, Scotland and China, and numerous studies of cellular, molecular and genetic causes of myocardial infarction.
Over the years, he has held many international positions, such as the Consultant to Health Canada on Medical Telematics in Cardiology (1999-2005) and member of the International Program Committee G8 Global Healthcare Application Project (1995-2001). He has been a member of the Junto Health Summit in New York since 2016 and the International Scientific Committee of the World Conference on Exercise Medicine since 2018. From 2004 to 2008, he was the co-chair of the International Heart Health Society.
He is actively involved in publishing. Professor Cianflone cooperated with such journals as the Italian Heart Journal (1998-2000), Medscape Italia Cardiologia (1999-2001), in 2005-2006 he prepared the sixth volume of the American College of Cardiology Self-Assessment Program (ACCSAP) for publication. He is currently the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cardiology at Elsevier. He is also the author and co-author of 102 articles (his H index in the Scopus database is 30, RG score 41.19 top 2.5%), which were published in such scientific journals as the Journal of American College of Cardiology, European Journal of Cardiology, Circulation, NEJM , Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, Circulation Journal, Journal of Immunology, European Journal of Echocardiography, Journal on Information Technology in Healthcare, IJC Heart and Vasculature, American Journal of Cardiology.
He has participated as a speaker in over 350 congresses organized by prestigious societies such as the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), International Heart Health Society (IHHS), Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC), Société Française de Cardiologie (SFC), Italian Society of Cardiology Specialists ultrasound imaging (SIEC), National Association of Hospital Cardiology (ANMCO) and Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI).
