Giuseppe Magnani
Biography
Dr. Giuseppe Magnani is a neurologist at the Neurology Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, directed by Professor Massimo Filippi. He also serves as the Area Coordinator of the Memory Disorders Unit and the Cognitive Disorders and Dementias Center (CDCD, formerly UVA Center) within the Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology at the same hospital.
He is a contract professor of Neurogeriatrics at the School of Specialization in Neurology, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan.
Dr. Magnani graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1986 and specialized in Neurology with honors at the same institution in 1991. From 1989 to 2000, he worked as a Medical Assistant at the Neurological Clinic IV at the University of Milan, IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. From 2000 to 2002, he was a First-Level Medical Director at the Neurological Clinic of Vita-Salute University. Between 2002 and 2008, he served as a Senior First-Level Medical Director in the Neurology and Neurophysiology Unit at the same hospital.
From 2000 to 2009, Dr. Magnani was the Head of the Memory Disorders Unit and the UVA Center in the Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. From 2009 to 2018, he was the Area Coordinator of the Memory Disorders Unit and UVA Center at INSPE, IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. Since 2019, he has been the Area Coordinator of the Memory Disorders Unit and the Head of the Cognitive Disorders and Dementias Center (CDCD, formerly UVA Center) within the Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology.
His clinical work focuses primarily on dementia-related diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and its variants. He has participated in numerous national and international pharmacological trials. Dr. Magnani provides clinical care in the Neurology ward, particularly in the Emergency Department and Neurology ward, handling neurological emergencies and conducting outpatient clinics, especially concerning Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
He has extensive clinical experience in general neurology, with a particular emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases. He is also an expert electroencephalographer and was a member of the Brain Death Verification Commission for organ transplants at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele from 1991 to 2012.
Earlier in his career, he engaged in research in neurophysiology, focusing on evoked potentials and electroencephalography, including advanced methods such as high-resolution EEG and Event-Related Desynchronization applied to clinical settings. Since 2000, his research has centered on Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, particularly studying cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
