Luca Bocciolone
Biography
Dr. Luca Bocciolone is the Head of the Department of Surgical Oncological Gynecology at the U.O. Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Department of Mother and Child of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Massimo Candiani, Specialist Gynecologist-Oncologist surgeon at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
After graduating from the University of Milan in 1988 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery, in 1992 he received a specialization in obstetrics and gynecology at the same university. In 1991, he received a diploma in pharmacological research at the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri in Milan.
In addition to the Department of Clinical Epidemiology of Istituto Mario Negri (where he worked for a decade 1986-1996), in 1993-1994 he attended the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Ospedale San Gerardo in Monza, turning his attention to the diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the female reproductive system.
He completed his studies by visiting the Department of Cancer Epidemiology at the University of Lausanne in 1992 and the Department of Surgical Gynecology at the University of Leipzig in 1999, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York in 2003 and Università Charitè in Berlin in 2006.
From 1994 to 2018, he first worked as an assistant, and since 2005 he has held the position of Senior Deputy Director in the Department of Surgical Gynecology of the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), where he devoted himself to surgical treatment with laparotomy and minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic approach to the treatment of neoplasms of the ovary, cervix, endometrium and vulva.
In 2009, he was a founding member of the European Robotic Gynecological Surgery (SERGS), and then Professor of Oncological Surgery at the European School of Abdominal Surgery in Gynecological Oncology (ESAGON) and the School of Robotic Surgery - IEO Education.
Since 2018, he has been the head of the Department of Surgical Oncological Gynecology at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan.
He collaborates with Casa di Cura La Madonnina, where he is engaged in oncological gynecological surgery, as well as robotic technology.
Performs outpatient activities at Ospedale San Raffaele and at Punto RAF at Viale Washington.
As for research, Dr. Bocciolone is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of neoplasms of the female reproductive system and, in particular, epithelial, stromal and embryonic ovarian tumors.
He is a member of several scientific societies in this field, such as the MITO-group (Multicenter Italian Trials in Ovarian Cancer and Gynecological Malignancies) and ESGO (European Society of Gynecological Oncology) and the author-co-author of more than 90 publications in national and international scientific journals. His Hirsch index is 28.
