Piergiorgio Muriana
Biography
Dr. Piergiorgio Muriana is a thoracic surgeon in the Operative Department of Thoracic Surgery at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Giulia Veronesi.
After graduating in 2008 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele, he received a specialization in thoracic surgery in 2014 at the same university.
IRCCS, Dr. Muriana is engaged in thoracic surgery in general and, in particular, endoscopic diagnosis and surgical treatment of oncological pathologies of the lungs and mediastinum using the most modern minimally invasive methods (EBUS, electromagnetic endobronchial navigation system, VATS, robotic surgery). In addition, he is engaged in the diagnosis and endoscopic and surgical treatment of benign and malignant pathologies of the trachea.
As for research, Dr. Muriana is mainly engaged in thoracic oncology and, in particular, the identification of prognostic factors in preclinical and clinical settings. He is actively involved in interdisciplinary research protocols, both in institutional and in collaboration with other centers.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Thoracic Surgery (SICT) and a reviewer of several international journals specializing in this field.
He is the author and co-author of more than 20 publications in national and international scientific journals and 2 book chapters. His Hirsch Index is 5. He constantly participates in national and international industry congresses as a speaker. He is a mentor for physicians in special training at the Specialized School of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele and is an Associate Professor of the course of medicine and surgery in English (International Doctor of Medicine Program) of the same university.
