Ubaldo Del Carro

Dr. Ubaldo Del Carro is a neurologist at the Neurology Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, led by Professor Massimo Filippi. He is also the Director of Intraoperative Neurophysiology and the coordinator of the Pelvic Unit.

After earning his medical degree, Dr. Del Carro specialized in Neurology at the University of Milan. He began his association with the Neurology division of Ospedale San Raffaele in 1982, initially as a student and resident, and later advanced to the role of Assistant Neurologist in clinical practice.

Dr. Del Carro has participated in several practical residential courses, including the Electromyographic and Clinical Neurophysiopathology Culture Course at the University of Ferrara (1987), the Electroencephalography and Epileptology Training Course in Gargnano (BS) at the University of Milan, and a Practical Course on Neuro-Urology in Maastricht (2000).

During his specialization, Dr. Del Carro focused on muscular diseases, collaborating with U.I.L.D.M. for epidemiological studies on dystrophic myopathies and their neurophysiological classification.

Since 2001, as Head of the Neurophysiology Service, he has been involved in the functional diagnostics of central and peripheral nervous system pathologies (EMG and Multimodal Evoked Potentials), becoming the Head of the SINC Training Center for the EMG and EP module.

He has also served as the coordinator of the SINC Pelvic Floor Neurophysiology Study Group and is currently the coordinator of the Pelvic Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.

In the area of movement disorders, Dr. Del Carro is responsible for the clinic that treats focal dystonias and spasticity with Botulinum Toxin. He is also responsible for the clinic that treats chronic migraine headaches with Botulinum Toxin. In 2021, he was appointed Director of Intraoperative Neurophysiology.

Dr. Del Carro's research activities focus on clinical studies related to peripheral nerve diseases and disorders affecting the pelvic floor. His experimental research centers on the application of neurophysiological techniques in animal models (primates and rodents) of genetic and acquired diseases, aiming to refine sensitive methods for characterizing pathophysiological mechanisms and validating tools to assess the effectiveness of new and innovative therapeutic approaches.
