The Effectiveness of Arrhythmic Substrate Ablation in The Treatment of Brugada Syndrome Has Been Confirmed
Carlo Pappone
Biography
Prof. Carlo Pappone is the Head of the Operative Unit of Clinical Arithmology and the Electrophysiology Laboratory at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan, as well as Cardiologist, Arithmologist and Electrophysiologist at Casa di Cura La Madonnina. He is Full Professor of Cardiology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
In 1986, he graduates in Medicine and Surgery from the University Federico II of Naples, where he obtains specialization in Cardiology four years later, and in 1995, he obtains PhD in Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome.
Prof. Pappone is involved in all electrophysiology procedures, with particular interest in transcatheter ablation of atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardias and Wolff Parkinson White (WPW) syndrome, in adult and pediatric population.
In scientific research, he focuses on the development of new therapeutic strategies in patients with atrial fibrillation and WPW, and the prevention of sudden arrhythmic death of arrhythmogenic congenital heart diseases.
In recent time, his focus of interest has turned to the prevention of sudden death and the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias in patients with Brugada syndrome. He developed a new epicardial ablation procedure to identify and eliminate the mechanisms that trigger sudden death in these patients: to date, approximately 600 patients have been successfully treated.
Dr Pappone is invited speaker and moderator at major national and international congresses in the field of cardiology and arrhythmology; author of 184 scientific articles, more than 30 book chapters and 184 papers (16,814 citations, H-Index 50).
He is a reviewer of numerous journals, such as New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, JAMA, Circulation, European Heart Journal, American Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology, Circulation Arrhytmia Electrophisiology, Europace, Heart Rhythm, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine, Giornale Italiano di Cardiologia and Giornale Italiano di Aritmologia e Cardiostimolazione.
In 2006, he is given the Elite Reviewer Award from the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC). He is a Fellow in numerous international cardiology societies, such as American Heart Association (AHA), European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and American College of Cardiology (ACC).
