Prof. Gabriele Capurso is the Head of the Functional Clinical Research Department in the Department of Biliopancreatic Endoscopy and Ecoendoscopy of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by Dr. Paolo Arcidiacono, and Deputy Director of the Center for Research and Treatment of Pancreatic Diseases in San Raffaele.

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1997 and obtaining a specialization in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy in 2001 at the Sapienza University of Rome, after conducting fundamental research on pancreatic neoplasms in London for several years, he received a doctorate in research in the field of oncology of the digestive tract, in 2004.

Prof. Capurso is an expert in the field of pancreatic diseases and is responsible for coordinating clinical and research activities in patients with inflammatory (pancreatitis) and neoplastic (cystic lesions, pancreatic tumors, endocrine neoplasms).

The professor also participated in the development of Italian and European guidelines on acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, cystic neoplasms of the pancreas and pancreatic tumors.

As a researcher, Prof. Capurso is engaged in clinical and translational studies of pancreatic pathologies. He is the author and co-author of more than 190 publications in industry scientific journals and book chapters. His Hirsch index is 36. Permanent participant of national and international industry congresses.
