The Hernia Center is a highly specialized department founded and directed by Prof. Giampiero Campanelli, formerly Head of the General Surgery - Day & Week Surgery Unit. The Hernia Center is a national reference point for treatment of abdominal wall pathology. It is composed of a team of experts with a rigorous technical-scientific approach, in line with the latest technologie,s and in conjunction with international scientific guidelines.

An integral part of the surgical team are the trainees from the General Surgery Residency Program of the University of Insubria.

Following a Hub & Spoke model designed to be as accessible as possible to patients, the Hernia Center also has a location at Palazzo della Salute-Wellness Clinic, where patients can access specialistic visits and initial examinations. If further investigations and/or surgery are required, thanks to the synergy between the two facilities and the presence of the same team, these can be performed at the Galeazzi-Sant'Ambrogio Hospital with the guarantee of diagnostic and therapeutic continuity.

Treated pathologies encompass all abdominal wall conditions, including:

• Primary inguinal hernias (never operated on) and their recurrences (previously subjected to one or several repair surgeries).
• Primary femoral hernias and their recurrences.
• Ventral hernias (epigastric and/or umbilical) with or without rectus muscle diastasis.
• Rectus muscle diastasis.
• Postpartum floppy abdomen.
• Rare primary and recurrent lateral hernias (Spigelian, Petit, and Grynfelt).
• Sports hernia or pubalgia, and Pubic Inguinal Pain Syndrome (PIPS).
• Laparoceles, lombocels, incisional hernias, parietal disasters.
• Abdominal hernias and obesity.
• Chronic postoperative neuralgias (inguinal and ventral).
• Endometriosis of the abdominal wall.
