Alessandro Frigiola
Biography
Dr. Alessandro Frigiola is the Head of the Pediatric Heart Surgery Department at the Policlinico San Donato Clinical Research Institute in Milan.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Padua, where he then specialized in pediatric surgery. He completed his second specialization in cardiac surgery at the University of Bologna. He continued his studies abroad, at the Hôpital De La Timone in Marseille, Hospital Green Lake in Auckland, Hospital for Sick Children in London, Cardiothoracic Center in Monte Carlo and Hôpital Pessac in Bordeaux.
Over the years of his career, Dr. Alessandro Frigiola has performed over 12,000 cardiac surgeries in adults and children, including replacing a patient’s aortic valve with his own pulmonary valve (Ross operation). On the international stage, he organized over 400 humanitarian missions in 27 countries, where he operated on about 3,000 children.
In 1993, he founded the association Bambini Cardiopatici nel Mondo and became its chairman. He is the Project Manager for international cooperation in the development of pediatric cardiac surgery, the member of the American Association Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and the Visiting Professor at the medical centers of Bucharest, Cairo, Damascus, Tunisia, Lima, Dubai and Casablanca, where he periodically performs cardiac surgery.
He is the author of 150 scientific articles published in the most influential national and international journals.
Among the numerous prizes and awards he received, the following can be distinguished: the Ambrogino D’Oro medal, presented to him by the Mayor of Milan, the large officer’s insignia for humanitarian work, awarded to him in 2008 by the President of the Republic of Giorgio Napolitano, and in 2016 the status of Commander of the Order “For services to the Italian Republic”, assigned by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
