Alessandro Giamberti
Biography
Dr. Alessandro Giamberti is the Head of the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and the Department of Cardiac Surgery for Congenital Heart Diseases in Adults at the Policlinico San Donato Clinical Research Institute in Milan, and also the Visiting Professor in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the School of Specialization in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Brescia.
After receiving a Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the La Sapienza University of Rome, he transferred to the University of Bologna, where he specialized in cardiac surgery.
In 1990-1991, he was the recipient of the FEDERSPEV Award for Surgery and the Donatelli Award for Cardiac Surgery.
Before joining the Policlinico San Donato Clinical Institute in 2000, he worked at the Hospital named after Marie Lanlong in Paris, Infant Jesus Hospital in Rome and Heart Hospital London.
He actively works internationally, cooperating as a consultant in pediatric cardiac surgery with the Central Oil Industry Hospital in Azerbaijan, Cairo Children’s Hospital in Egypt, Djidjine Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Belgrade in Serbia and St. Elizabeth Catholic General Hospital in Cameroon, where he also was the Chairman of the Board.
Dr. Alessandro Giamberti's activities cover a wide area, ranging from the treatment of congenital heart diseases in adults, namely the Fontaine operation, surgical implantation of the pulmonary valve in Fallot’s tetralogy and surgery of cardiac arrhythmias, to the treatment of the most complex pathologies in newborns, for example, arterial switch surgery and Norwood surgery in the treatment of hypoplasia syndrome of the left heart. In 2017, he developed a minimally invasive surgery program for the treatment of congenital heart diseases.
He is the author of over 130 international scientific works, 3 monographs, 3 chapters in books.
He is the member of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery (SICCH), Italian Society of Pediatric Cardiology (SICP), European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (EACTS), World Society of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Congenital Heart Disease Surgery (WSPCHS), American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), and Chief Specialist of the working group on congenital heart disease in adults of the European Society of Cardiology.
He is the Scientific Director of the Italian Association of Adult Patients with Congenital Heart Diseases (AICCA).
