Alessandro Parolari
Biography
Professor Alessandro Parolari is the Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Translational Research at the Clinical Research Institute Policlinico San Donato and Resident Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Milan.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Parma in 1988 and specialized in cardiac surgery at the University of Milan in 1993.
From 1997 to 1998, he passed scientific practice at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and received his doctorate in the pathophysiology of surgical heart and thoracic organ diseases at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 1999.
Professor Parolari has worked at the Cardiology Center named after Monzino since 1993, first as a Research Assistant until he became the Head of the Department of Clinical Research in Atherothrombosis and the Senior Assistant in cardiac surgery. Since 2015, he has performed all types of cardiac surgery in adults, especially in the surgical treatment of heart valves, coronary vessels and aorta at the Policlinico San Donato Clinical Research Institute. He has performed over 3,000 surgeries as the first surgeon.
He has 222 SCOPUS-reviewed scientific publications, including 194 Impact Factor publications, a total IF is 887 and an average IF is 4.6. The total number of citations of scientific publications is 4268; Hirsch index is 36 (Scopus).
He is a Reviewer for the most prominent adult cardiovascular surgery journals and Associate Editor for cardiac surgery in the Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine. In addition, he is a member of the editorial committee of the journal Giornale Italiano di Cardiologia, as well as the Scientific Editor of the journal PLOS ONE.
Professor Parolari served as Scientific Secretary of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery from 2013 to 2020; since 2017 he has been Chairman of the Board of Fondazione Cuore Domani SICCH Research ONLUS Foundation and from 2018 to 2020 he was the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery.
He is a Deputy Chairman of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery and Chairman-Elect of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery (for 2023-2024).
