Apostolos Karligkiotis
Biography
Professor Apostolos Karligkiotis is a Senior Medical Assistant in the Otorhinolaryngology Unit at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital and an Associate Professor of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervico-Facial Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Insubria in Varese (2008) and specialized with honors in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Sassari (2016). He completed training experiences abroad at centers of excellence, including the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the Lariboisière Hospital in Paris, as well as in Italy at the Ospedale di Circolo in Varese, where he later worked for 8 years as a medical officer.
He has performed over 2,500 surgical procedures on adult and pediatric patients, specializing in minimally invasive endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses and skull base, as well as surgery of the salivary glands and thyroid. His expertise extends to all cervico-facial surgeries for inflammatory, obstructive, and oncological conditions of the head and neck.
He is an expert in treating conditions such as rhinosinusitis, nasal polyps, nasal septum deviations, epistaxis, benign and malignant tumors of the nasal sinuses and skull base, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and lacrimal duct disorders, employing modern minimally invasive endoscopic approaches.
He is the author of over 160 scientific publications, including 75 in indexed peer-reviewed journals, with an H-index of 19. Additionally, he has contributed to 12 book chapters, particularly in the field of endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses and skull base. Since 2019, he has served as Associate Editor for the Rhinology and Skull Base section of the prestigious journal *Acta Otorhinolaryngologica Italica* (impact factor 2.1).
He has participated in over 260 conferences and training courses, more than 60 as a speaker, and has served as a tutor in over 120 surgical dissection courses on cadavers in the field of endoscopic nasal and skull base surgery.
