Arianna Lesma
Biography
Dr. Arianna Lesma is the Head of the Pediatric Urology Unit in the Urology Department of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by the Professor Francesco Montorsi.
She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan in 1995, completed a specialization in pediatric surgery in the same university in 2000 and completed a specialization in urology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan in 2007. She worked in France at the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the Fondation Hopital Saint Joseph Hospital in Marseille. She then attended the Department of Adolescent Urology at the Institute of Urology and Nephrology at the Royal Free and University College Medical School in London and the Department of Pediatric Urology at Great Hormond Street Hospital in London as an honorary clinical observer.
At the clinical level, Dr. Lesma deals with the treatment of general anomalies of the external genital organs (phimosis, balano-preputial adhesions, cryptorchidism, hydrocele, inguinal hernia, synechia of the labia minora), malformations of the penis (hypospadias, epispadias), congenital urological anomalies of development (valves of the posterior urethra, vesicoureteral reflux, ureterocele, megaureter, pyeloureteral segment stenosis), urinary tract infections, urinary disorders, urinary incontinence, nocturnal enuresis, neurological bladder disorder, consulting pregnant women on urological developmental abnormalities found on ultrasound of the fetus (calicopyelectasis, excessively enlarged bladder), and pathologies of adolescence (varicocele, short frenum, recurvatum penis). In addition, special attention is paid to children with sexual differentiation disorders (congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Morris syndrome, gonadal dysgenesis, etc.), in which genital plastic surgery is required.
Dr. Lesma’s research focus is on Sexual Differentiation Disorders (SDD). These are rare pathologies for which the San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute acts as a national center of excellence. The reliability of research is ensured by the presence of a large staff, professional skills and modern tools.
She is the Visiting Professor at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. She conducts a special elective course in pediatric urology for students in Medicine and Surgery. In addition, she is one of the scientific advisers of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) program for medical specialists at the San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute, dealing with the treatment of children with SDD.
She is the member of the Italian Society of Pediatric Urology, Italian Society of Adolescent Medicine, Italian Society of Urology and European Society of Pediatric Urology.
She is the author and co-author of scientific articles published in national and international journals. Her Hirsch index is 6, the number of citations is 180. She regularly participates in national and international industry congresses.
