Elisabetta Lapenna
Biography
Elisabetta Lapenna is the head of the Functional Department of Surgical Treatment of Cardiac Arrhythmias of the Department of Cardiac Surgery of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan under the supervision of Professor Alessandro Castiglioni.
She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1995 with high marks at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome and was awarded the Agostino Gemelli Prize of the 36th edition as the holder of the highest degree in Medicine / Curriculum Studiorum (1989 -1995). In 2001, she specialized in cardiac surgery at the same university. During her studies, she completed internships abroad at the European Homotransplant Bank in Brussels, the University Hospital Center in Nantes, St George's Hospital and Royal Brompton-Harefield Hospital in London.
Dr. Lapenna has performed more than 4,000 cardiac surgeries as a first and second surgeon, as well as using minimally invasive and thoracoscopic methods. In particular, in addition to mitral and aortic valve surgery, ascending aorta, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and CABG, her interest is in heart failure surgery by implantation of ventricular support systems (L-VAD) and surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation using thoracoscopic procedures. With the arrhythmia treatment team of the department, she performed numerous procedures of hybrid endo-epicardial ablation of ventricular tachyarrhythmias through left mini-thoracotomy in collaboration with electrophysiologists.
Dr. Lapenna is an adjunct professor of the scientific sector MED/23 - Cardiac Surgery - within the framework of the Master's degree course in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele and at the School of Specialization of Cardiac Surgery of the same university.
She also taught a Master's degree in Engineering and Surgery for engineers at the Polytechnic University of Milan.
As a researcher, Dr. Lapenna has participated as a supervisor or co-investigator in numerous clinical trials characterized by collaboration at the national and international levels. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 publications in industry scientific journals and numerous chapters in books. His current Hirsch index is 18 (Scopus author ID: 56113466100).
Has a patent for a device for percutaneous treatment of tricuspid valvular insufficiency.
